History from beginning till today

The history of the firm dates back to 1987 when Milan Duchek, then a 17-year-old student, tried to improve his bicycle with self-made accessories. These parts designed and produced in a cellar of their family house were at least a rarity for those days and also a prove of well-known saying about skilful Czech hands especially in a period of communist regime.

A brand “MD systém” appeared on home-made “works” such as a disc bike, felloe bike, slip-on pedals, shifting control in a brake lever, handle bar, seat and even a functional “cyclocomputer” made from a calculator. Even a frame itself was subjected to adjustments. At first he focused on geometry modifications and shortening of rear structure of his own vehicle and then he reconstructed older bikes of his mates to racing bicycles. He found out that the ground of reliable bike is a quality frame and in 1992, after the Iron Curtain Fall, he founded a firm specializing in the manufacture of bike frames.

DURATEC s.r.o. is an exclusively Czech firm, free of foreign capital, and from the very beginning, it had a clear notion of position it would like to take on the market. In the first years the firm concentrated on a valuable offer and technical manufacturing. A task was to create all frames of Duratec brand and design original elements to be typical for Duratec from then on.

Nowadays, the firm´s offer is able to satisfy almost every branch of bike racing as well as sports cycling.
